We need to revisit these 2016 classics right now
2016 was a very specific era. Not just for what was happening in the world — but for what we were watching. Three titles from that year still hit differently and honestly they deserve a revisit.
La La Land
Still one of the most beautiful breakup movies ever made. Yes, breakup — because that's what La La Land actually is. Two people who genuinely love each other who also want incompatible versions of their lives, and the film refuses to pretend that's simple. The ending gutted everyone in 2016 and it still does. The colors alone are worth it.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Completely underseen and genuinely one of the most interesting things TV did that decade. Rachel Bloom plays a woman who quits her New York law firm to follow her ex to a small California suburb, and the show spends four seasons interrogating that decision with musical numbers and more self-awareness than most dramas manage in an entire run. If you've never watched it, this is your sign.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
The 2016 revival came out in November and the fandom collectively lost it — the good kind. Returning to Stars Hollow for four long episodes felt like going home. Yes, the ending is divisive. Yes, Logan discourse is ongoing. But watching Lorelai and Rory navigate their thirties with the same rhythm they had in high school is worth every complicated feeling that comes with it.
