The first Eurovision in Asia is doing what Eurovision has always done best, which is take an entire continent's worth of pop ambition and camp and national pride and put it all on one enormous glittering stage. The Bangkok Grand Final is a visual spectacle we were not prepared for in the best possible way. Asia has been sending the world K-pop and J-pop and Mandopop for years and now those fandoms and dozens more get their Eurovision moment and the energy in that arena was something else. This is a cultural event and we were so glad to witness it.
What is Eurovision Song Contest Asia about?
Eurovision Song Contest Asia brings the format of the world's most iconic music competition to the Asian continent for the first time, with national selection shows airing across multiple countries before building to a live Grand Final in Bangkok in November 2026. Countries from across Asia compete with original songs performed live, combining jury votes and audience support in the tradition of the original Eurovision format. The event represents the first major expansion of the Eurovision brand into the Asian market and is expected to introduce a generation of regional pop talent to a global audience.
