Florence Pugh playing one of literature's most notorious women is exactly the casting we didn't know we needed until right now. Cathy Ames is manipulative, magnetic, and completely unbothered by what anyone thinks of her, and Pugh looks like she is having the time of her life in the role. The brother rivalry between Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist adds a whole extra layer of tension, two men shaped by the same terrible woman and neither able to fully let her go. This is prestige drama with genuine soap opera bones underneath, betrayal, obsession, and a family curse that gets passed down like an heirloom. Hoon Lee's Lee ends up being the emotional center of the whole thing in the quietest possible way. Watch this if you want your next generation defining television obsession.
What is East of Eden about?
East of Eden is a multigenerational adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel about the Trask family across two American generations. Florence Pugh plays Cathy Ames, whose choices ripple through the family for decades. Christopher Abbott plays Adam Trask and Mike Faist plays his brother Charles, whose rivalry shapes much of the story. Hoon Lee plays Lee, a member of the Trask household who becomes essential to the family's survival.
