Zac Efron as a brooding Marine who travels across the country because he believes a random photo saved his life is a Nicholas Sparks premise and a half 📸 The small-town Louisiana setting and the kennel job he takes just to get close to the woman in the picture give the slow burn a very specific texture. Taylor Schilling as Beth makes the film considerably better than it needs to be.
What is The Lucky One about?
After completing three tours in Iraq, Marine Logan Thibault returns home with one mission: find the unknown woman whose photograph he believes was his good luck charm. He travels to Louisiana, where he eventually locates Beth Clayton, the woman in the picture. Logan takes a job at Beth's family kennel, keeping his true reason for being there a secret. As he gets to know Beth and her son, a complex romance blossoms amidst the small-town setting.
