Debbie Allen directing a new Hillman story is already significant and then Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah makes it even more exciting. Deborah's problem is not that she is at the wrong school. it is that the right school already decided who she is before she got there. that specific tension is so real and the HBCU setting makes it feel alive rather than generic college drama. Deborah earning her place in a place that was supposed to already be hers is an arc we are fully invested in from episode one.
What is A Different World about?
Maleah Joi Moon plays Deborah Wayne, arriving at Hillman College as a freshman where both her parents were legendary students before her. Their reputation preceded her, and Deborah has to figure out how to build her own legacy at a place that already has a version of her it prefers. Directed by Debbie Allen, the show runs 10 episodes.
