Samantha Bee playing a former actor turned diplomat who talks her way out of everything is exactly the chaos we want from a two woman comedy duo. Olivia and Andrea have been besties since childhood and it shows in how they read each other without saying a word. This is giving Parks and Recreation energy but set on the world stage instead of a sleepy local government office. Watching two women wing an entire international relationship with zero backup is somehow both funny and kind of inspiring. If you love a friendship that can survive absolutely anything, this one is for you.
What is The Ambassador about?
Olivia Winters (Samantha Bee) is a former actor turned unconventional diplomat working alongside her childhood best friend Andrea Taylor (Allana Harkin), a sharp and policy driven diplomat in her own right. The two women are sent to a remote diplomatic post to find new business opportunities for Canada in a fast changing world. With fewer resources and less support than bigger embassies get, Olivia and Andrea rely on instinct, improvisation, and their decades long friendship to get results. Every win comes under close watch from officials back in Ottawa, who are never fully convinced the two know what they are doing. The show finds its comedy in two women who keep pulling off the impossible while barely holding it together.
