Paul Giamatti as the director trying to survive her transformation is comedy gold every single scene. This is for anyone who has ever taken a hobby way too seriously and has zero regrets about it. Mona Friedman is going down as one of the funniest unraveling women of the year and we are so here for it.
What is The Debut about?
Julianne Moore stars as Mona Friedman, a shy suburban housewife who lands a small role at her local community theater. Under the direction of Jerry, played by Paul Giamatti, Mona begins to take her bit part far more seriously than anyone expected. She throws herself into method acting, determined to protect what she sees as the artistic integrity of her role. Halle Bailey and Havana Rose Liu round out the cast as fellow theater members caught in the fallout of Mona's transformation. Jesse Eisenberg directs this comedy about one woman's unexpected reinvention through amateur theater.
