Breaking up is hard enough but breaking up and still having to see your ex do dishes in the same kitchen every single day is a whole new level of torture and Break Clause leans all the way into it. Samuel Bottomley and Lara Ricote have the kind of chemistry where you can feel the tension whether they are fighting or trying way too hard to be normal around each other. This is the show for anyone who has ever had to awkwardly split a lease with someone they used to love. It is funny, it is cringe, it is the most relatable kind of messy, and it somehow makes moving on look both impossible and inevitable. Watching two people try to coexist after everything falls apart hits a nerve in the best way.
What is Break Clause about?
Break Clause stars Samuel Bottomley as Ben and Lara Ricote as Lil, a couple whose relationship ends while they are still locked into the same flat lease. With months left on their tenancy, Ben and Lil have to keep living together, sharing a kitchen, a bathroom, and constant reminders of the relationship they just ended. John Thomson plays Alan and Lucy Black plays Deb, both pulled into the fallout as Ben and Lil try to figure out how to move on without moving out. Directed by Alice Snedden, the six episode season plays out almost entirely within the flat the two used to share. The show tracks what happens when a breakup does not come with an easy exit.
