Russian DollTV-show · 2019

If you've ever felt like life is just a glitch in the matrix, *Russian Doll* is your new obsession. This show takes the 'Groundhog Day' trope and flips it on its head with a sharp, hilarious, and surprisingly heavy vibe. Natasha Lyonne as Nadia is iconic, serving up peak chaotic energy and making us feel seen in our most existential moods. Plus, Charlie Barnett as Alan is giving us all the quiet, broody vibes we didn't know we needed.
Nadia Vulvokov finds herself trapped in a perplexing time loop, repeatedly dying and resurrecting at her 36th birthday party in New York City. Each time she dies, she wakes up in the same bathroom, forced to relive the same night. As she tries to unravel the mystery of her predicament, she encounters Alan Zaveri, another individual experiencing his own bizarre loop. Together, they navigate the existential absurdity of their situation while confronting their pasts and their own mortality.
Set four years after Nadia and Alan escaped mortality's time loop together, season two of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan's most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.
