Hugo Weaving and Heather Mitchell playing two people whose lives were never supposed to intersect is such a quietly powerful setup and it earns every bit of that quiet. This is not a loud show, it is the kind that trusts a single look on a ferry to carry an entire episode of feeling. Billy and Dani both have decades of history behind them, and you can feel every bit of it in how careful they are with each other at first. Wayne Blair and David Wenham fill out the edges of both their worlds in ways that make the whole thing feel lived in rather than staged. This is the kind of drama you put on when you want something that respects your intelligence and your patience in equal measure. It will not rush you, and honestly, that is the whole appeal.
What is Dalliance about?
Dalliance is set in Sydney, where a chance meeting brings together Billy, a former cameraman played by Hugo Weaving, and Dani, played by Heather Mitchell, on a harbour ferry. The two come from very different worlds, and their meeting sets off a series of events across six episodes. Wayne Blair and David Wenham play people connected to Billy and Dani's separate lives before their paths crossed. Directors Emma Jackson and Matthew Saville build the season around this one unexpected connection and what it stirs up for both of them. The series unfolds over a single season set largely around Sydney Harbour.
